21st

Sh brought me for a lovely birthday dinner at the Salt Grill and Sky Bar at Ion.
Such an atas place! haha. Impeccable service. The view was mad awesome, if not for the dirty window glass! We shared some crab omelette for appetizer and he had the spatchcock while I had the beef ribs for our mains. Super delicious and flavorful ! absolutely loved the mash potatoes. I think the most telling sign of whether a chef is good would be the mashed potatos. It was just so heavenly omg.

And a dainty Fossil watch for my pressie! :) It is just perfect to wear for my internship heh. Haven't had a watch in ages so I hope I'll take care of it properly!!

Photos taken with my new Nikon D5100 :) Was so excited that I just started taking photos of everything with it haha! shall blog about it more another time!

Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar Brunch Review

Headed to Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar yesterday to try their brunch offerings.
Located deep in winstedt road, it was a pretty quiet place for a laidback saturday brunch.

The place offers both outdoor and indoor seating. There were comfy sofa chairs indoors but they didn't let us sit there although it was unoccupied :(

The brunch menu is somewhat pricey as compared to other brunch places.

Funny placemat.

Ordered the Sous Vide Eggs Benedict ($18), which was largely disappointing.
Pretty stingy with hollandaise sauce, and it was tasteless. A slice of tomato was sandwiched between the undercooked poached eggs and english muffin. the poached eggs were more like half boiled eggs, the whites were not set and it was so runny it was a little hard to eat. Streaky bacon was tough and overcooked, but the sweet corn was nice.

Sh ordered the truffle scrambled eggs ($18)! only tried a bite of the humongous portobello mushroom, which was fat and juicy.

Overall a good place with a nice ambience, but the quality of food isn't worth the prices. :( shall stick to my other eggs benedict places!

Review: Lanzhou La Mian @ Smith Street

Went to Lan Zhou La Mian yesterday, and I think this will be the last time we're going in quite a while.

Found this place when Mao, a Japanese friend, visited Singapore few years back and requested to go to this place. Apparently the shop was featured in a Japanese guidebook for Singapore, hence there are many Japanese tourists day in and day out.

I used to like to come here till around last year, when the prices increased and the standards dropped :(

Interior is pretty old and dingy

Ordered my usual, the Minced Pork/ Zha Jiang La Mian ($5.80). It increased by $1 :O and the serving is getting smaller and smaller, now its barely enough for 3 big mouthfuls. :( maybe Japanese have really small appetites, hence they decreased the serving?

SH tried the Hokkien Mee ($5.80), which was basically Hokkien Mee with la mian... Really pricey as the serving was way too puny.

Guo Tie ($7.80)
Usually I order xiao long bao, but because it increased in price as well, decided to try the guo tie. and Meh. It wasn't nice at all! quite oily and not even crispy. just tasted like.. dried wanton. Sweechoon's one is even better than this. Wouldn't recommend anyone to order this!

Really quite sad that the standards of this place have been dropping as it used to be my favourite la mian/ xiao long bao place! :( but really, now quality doesn't justify the price anymore

Prive Cafe @ Keppel Bay

Clearing my backlog of foodie posts. heh.
Went to prive cafe last christmas for brunch. it wasn't my first time there - i previously went in the afternoon for their tea offerings. Heard pretty good reviews about the breakfast menu so decided to give it a try :)

Prive is located at Keppel bay. I would advise driving there, as you will need to take about a 20 mins walk to get there from harbourfront (and yes, i walked there on both occasions :( ) Its a really lovely place, with a scenic view.

It was SUPER crowded when we reached, and we weren't smart enough to make a reservation. Hence, we were ushered to the very back end of the cafe... which wasn't a very pleasant area. the tables were not clean, there was no fan or any cooling mechanism and the natural wind wouldn't blow till there

Only good thing was that the staff were still pretty attentive although we were far away from the main dining area.

Photos!

Espresso. came with a yummy cookie which i gobbled down straight away.

Wore my galaxy skirt from taobao!

ANDDD as usual, we ordered the same stuff. Eggs benedict for him and I decided to try Eggs royale. I think i should do a comparison post on all the eggs benedict that i've eaten ;p

SO GOOD.

Eggs benedict came with a super thick slice of ham. YUM

My Eggs royale!

Generous serving of smoked salmon!!

AND I would give their hollandaise sauce 5/5. TOO GOOD. the best I've ever had. and it feels sooo sinful. eggs were perfectly poached as well!! Pretty surprised that the quality was still quite high although it was a crowded morning.

Awesome brunch place to go if I have extra cash ;)

d' Good Cafe @ Holland Village

d'Good Cafe
Another all-day breakfast place to add to Singapore's list! After seeing cass' instagram photos of her breakfast here, i just had to visit.
d'Good cafe is located on the the 2nd storey of one of the shophouses, along the stretch where ramenplay/xinwang is located.

They are supposedly known for their quality coffee blends, I shall go back to try it some day!

There is plenty of seating capacity in the cafe, as they have both 2nd and 3rd storeys. Theres also a outer balcony seating area, but as it was 12 noon we just settled for aircon haha.

Good for chilling!

The food:

The breakfast is affordable - our eggs benedict was $16.50 inclusive of a coffee or iced chocolate (If i haven't remembered wrongly). It's comparable to hatched's, but at a much cheaper price! Quite a steal imo! SO GOOD. I could do with more of their hollandaise sauce though. no amount is ever enough.

Cappucino

hi mr tham
It was a hot day so I didn't want any more hot beverages.
ordered iced chocolate!! super large cup. i couldn't finish. it was oh-so-refreshing and thick yumz.

Another favourite brunch place to add my to foodie list!

Fatboy's The Burger Bar

Went to Fatboy's, The Burger Bar last week before school term started!
It was our 2nd attempt going there as the first time we went it was closed =.=
Take note that they are only open from 4pm on most weekdays!

Went to the thomson branch. Its a small, non-airconditioned place just beside the road.

Completely empty when we went!! and it was a friday afternoon.

Their tables are all long, like the benches kind, so I guess its rather big-group-friendly!

Fatboy's offers a range of burgers, and they also allow you to make your own! you can choose what type of bread, what cheese, the toppings, etc. But being lazy, we just went ahead with the preexisting ones.

I forgot the name, but this was the 1-patty version of Fat Bastard. Theres bacon, cheddar cheese, egg, with BBQ sauce! You can choose what kind of patty you want, this was lamb!

I ordered the Swiss Shroom, it had a beef patty, shitake mushrooms, swiss cheese, and wholemeal bun. I loveeee the wholemeal bun! But I dont fancy shitake mushrooms in a burger. taste kinda weird.

Sorry for the gross pic, just trying to show whats in the burger haha! the beef patty is really thick, almost 2cm i would say. and it was done to PERFECTION. its juicy. I cannot stand dry patties that crumble once you cut them. and the FRIES. you have to salt them yourself. haha.

Overall its quite a good place to go for gourmet burgers! would say that the quality is worth the price. kind of stopped eating fastfood burgers now since they're not THAT cheap yet are of lousy quality. I'd rather pay a few dollars more for a bigger and better burger!

So now my favourite proper burger places are Handburger and this! :)

Bistro One Zero Three

Bistro 103 is a humble Italian Bistro located among the shophouses along Pasir Panjang road. You'll just miss it if you didn't look carefully!

The whole restaurant had a very homely+cozy feel to it. super love the feeling :)
Headed there to celebrate le boyfriend's birthday on Friday night! It was still pretty empty when we reached there at 7, but more people started coming throughout the course of our dinner! The owners were super friendly too, I called beforehand to ask them to serve a surprise cake and they remembered and auto brought it out after we finished our main courses :')

Ice cream flavours listed out on the shop glass. Too bad we were too full :( Would have loved to try their icecream!!

Display of beer? aha

We ordered Escargot Au Gratin as our appetiser!
Not a big fan of escargot, but the sauce/cream was super yumz! serve with two generous pieces of perfect garlic bread :)

And of course our main courses!

I ordered the BBQ pork ribs and the serving was woah! haha. The ribs were juicy and not too tough, just right!

And the Kurobuta Pork neck steak! fat pieces of steak haha.

We also had their chocolate cake (which i didnt manage to get a decent photo of) and it was one of the best chocolate cakes I had ever eaten! The layers of cream were chocolatey and firm, not the soft whipped cream kind yumz.

Spend around $80+ for both of us! A pretty decent chill place to have a nice dinner :) Would definitely go back someday (if only it wasnt so out of the way T.T)! Might want to try out their pastas next, saw some pretty good reviews on them :)

La Petite Cuisine

Went to La Petite Cuisine a few weeks back to try some french cuisine :)
Its located at serene centre, i wonder how i didnt notice it before!! rarely hear people talking bout it.. its one of those ulu-but-awesome-foodie-place

Hidden gem!

HAHA HIS FACE.

Its a really simple, no-frills dining place. not like those fancy french restaurant. prices are around $10-20! not exactly cheap but quite okay for french food!

Crab and Foie Gras Ravioli!!
Damn good the foie gras! but the serving so little T.T

Duck confit! Meat was pretty tender, but the skin soso! sauce was quite good though.
AND THE POTATOS. ZOMG MAD AWESOME. dk what sauce they use but super niceeeeeee finished every piece.

Steak!! freaking small portion but was damn good :)
We each spent around 20+ bucks on the meal! quite worth it :)

ssikkek korean bbq + cedele brunch!

Nomnomnom!
Some overdue food photos~

Ssikkek Korean BBQ @ Novena!
Love this bbq place! They have a wide range of meats to choose from and tons of cooked food choices!
Weekday lunch costs around $14-$15 per pax, MAD WORTH IT!
Service was also pretty efficient, the staff will change the aluminium foil very frequently! like 3-4 times during the duration we were there.

Super awesome meat.

Cedele brunch @ Wheelock!

The breakfast was pretty soso but quite pricey. I prefer the rotisseries breakfast selection :((

I was sick the whole day yesterday after returning from bondue camp. No idea why bondue camp was SOOO shaggg i only had like 1.5-2h sleep each night.

And being stuck at home, I studded my lilac cardigan!

Running out of studs soon!

New bag from missypixie~ roomy and elegant, me likes!

Just succumbed to tracyeinny's sale :(( sigh
